Coaching in Communities

Transforming Health through Coaching: Insights and Advice from a Health Coach

by Karen Florence

Establishing and growing a successful coaching practice is like any other endeavor in life. It is a journey, a process, and a roller coaster. It requires effort, patience, urgency, and intestinal fortitude. It also requires keeping your finger on the pulse of what is happening in the world. Always looking for opportunities, “natural openings” as a coach would say, where our skills as coaches could be inserted into the challenges of the day to bring clarity and resolution.

Library for Transformation – Browse & Grow….

Our Library for Transformation is a free community resource that connects you with practical, substantive articles, videos and podcasts on hundreds of topics. The Library is a growing collection of educational, edgy and relevant resources, organized in 9 core categories.

Check out this month’s library picks:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? …. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

This is taken from the article, “How Are You Using Your Power?” By Paulette Rao where she explores this quote from Marianne Williamson’s “Our Deepest Fear.” What a great article to challenge yourself to think about consciousness and self-limiting behavior!

Change Within Ourselves – Growth Through Self-Education is a reminder how the principles of Nonviolent Communication can be used to promote positive change and reminds us how we can be better prepared to see what is alive within ourselves and others.

Become a Certified Community Coach

If you want to be a catalyst for healing and regeneration in your community, the Community Coach Certification program will give you skills to enhance your leadership and put change in motion. The first of its kind, the 9-month program has a unique focus of applying coaching skills in organizational or community systems

Not only will you draw from the unique experiences of a diverse training team—you’ll also benefit from learning with peers who share your compassion for grass roots transformation in communities.

The training starts with two in-person training days in Oakland, CA (October 18-19); Battle Creek, MI (October 27-28); or New York, NY (November 3-4). From there, you will join other participants from multiple locations to continue learning via weekly teleclasses. The program concludes with a final in-person training day. The course is an International Coach Federation (ICF) Approved Coach Specific Training Hour (ACSTH) program.

At Leadership that Works, we believe in the power of possibility. It’s why Possibility is one of our core principles. The beauty and mystery of the transformative process is that neither the coach nor the client can imagine all that’s possible. As coaches, when we remain open and curious, we have greater access to our right brain, our intuition and extrodinary solutions. Far more is possible than any of us realize.

“We all have possibilities we don’t know about. We can do things we don’t even dream we can do.” —Dale Carnegie

“Nothing is impossible – the word itself says I’m possible” —widely attributed to Hepburn

“Oh man! There is no planet, sun or star could hold you if you but knew what you are.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson
